Agreement between ASCILITE and ASET regarding
the Australian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET)

July 1998
  1. This agreement between the Australasian Society for Computers in Learning in Tertiary Education (ASCILITE) and the Australian Society for Educational Technology (ASET) provides for joint publication of the Australian Journal of Educational Technology (AJET).

  2. The purpose of AJET is to:

    1. publish papers that add significantly to the body of knowledge describing the use of technology to support teaching and learning.
    2. provide a nationally recognised refereed journal of significant academic rigour.
    3. provide opportunities for members of ASCILITE and ASET to publish the results of their research in a timely manner.

  3. AJET is published on a 'not for profit' basis.

  4. Publication is via both the print medium and the electronic medium.

  5. AJET is managed by an Editorial Board of 8 members, comprising the Senior Editor, the Production Editor and six ordinary members. The Editorial Board is supported by an Editorial Review Panel of approximately 20 members. Four members of the Editorial Board shall be appointed by ASET, and four by ASCILITE. Editorial Board members are appointed for three years. In the event of a casual vacancy, the replacement shall be appointed by the relevant society.

  6. The Senior Editor is responsible for the quality of the scholarly contributions to AJET, including:

    1. defining the scope of the journal and producing guidelines for authors.
    2. receiving contributions from authors; arranging for contributions to be reviewed; accepting or rejecting contributions, based on advice from reviewers; general administration of contributions.
    3. providing the Production Editor with accepted articles in a timely manner.
    4. managing the Editorial Board.
    5. liaising with the Production Editor in the day-to-day running of AJET.
    6. reporting to ASET and ASCILITE on a six-monthly basis about results achieved and issues of concern.

  7. The Production Editor is responsible for the publication process, including:

    1. desktop publishing of print copy.
    2. arranging the printing of each edition.
    3. online publication of articles.
    4. distribution of copies to each society according to the wishes of each society.
    5. distribution of copies to other subscribers.
    6. financial matters relating to the publication of the journal.
    7. liaising with the Senior Editor in the day-to-day running of AJET.
    8. reporting to ASET and ASCILITE on a six-monthly basis about production and financial matters.

  8. The Editorial Board is responsible for:

    1. establishing and maintaining operational procedures for the management of AJET.
    2. making recommendations to ASCILITE and ASET on policy matters.
    3. selecting, from among their ranks, the Senior Editor and Production Editor, from time to time.

  9. The Editorial Review Panel is chosen by the Editorial Board to provide reviewing expertise across the range of areas defined by the scope of the journal.

  10. AJET may be distributed to other Supporting Societies at cost price. Supporting societies must have similar aims and aspirations to ASCILITE and ASET, and will be recognised by the publication of their logo and details on the inside of the front cover.

  11. This agreement remains in force from the beginning of 1998 until the end of 2001, except that:

    1. the agreement can be amended at any time with the consent of both Societies,
    2. the agreement can be terminated by either Society six months after written notice is received.

In 2001 this agreement was renewed for a further period of three years. At the end of 2005 when ASET was dissolved this agreement lapsed and ASCILITE became the sole manager and publisher for AJET.
