Editorial

This issue of the Australian Journal of Educational Technology offers articles on a range of instructional technologies and applications, with discussions of a range of research and development strategies.

Sue Bennett from Central Queensland University and Peter Reilly from Queensland Alumina Limited describe a joint project involving the design, development and implementation of a multimedia training package. Their paper describes an initial evaluation and the progress of the project to date and the current and future strategies for evaluation of the training program. Trish Andrews and Greg Klease from the Central Queensland University describe a video conferencing project which was implemented to deliver simultaneous interactive instruction in first year chemistry to three campuses - Rockhampton, Mackay, Bundaberg. Tony Fetherston from Edith Cowan University presents some cogent arguments supporting the use of Gardner's multiple intelligences as a potential framework for the study of educational multimedia.

Gerry Foley and Sandy Schuck from the University of Technology, Sydney have written a paper which describes the use of a web based conferencing tool to promote dialogue within an international community of mathematics educators and prospective school teachers on the nature of mathematics and mathematics learning. Binh Pham from the University of Ballarat has provided a paper which discusses strategies for the evaluation of multimedia systems from both a cognitive and technical perpsective.

The papers in this issue, as with all papers in the Australian Journal of Educational Technology, have been peer reviewed and recommended for publication by academics and researchers prominent in the field of instructional technologies. We hope you enjoy reading the journal and hope that the papers provide you with some valuable and challenging ideas for your own work.
