Thanks for coming to our paper! We are looking or simple and operable indicators of effectiveness and engagement in online discussion, especially ones that could be developed without the need for extensive coding of contributions. Do you think any of the following might be useful:
-number of contributions to a thread
-length of a thread in days
-intensity of contributions to a thread (contributions per day)
-ratio of teacher to student contributions
Or, if we have to go to coding:
-percentage of 'interactive or collegial' as opposed to 'individual' contributions (ie contributions that build on others rather than just articulate an individual's point of view
-percentage of 'interactive' contributions in first 25% (or 50%) of contributions
-...
Any others?
